stutter-loop-arrivalWhat happens when you arrive¶
The sun sits on the rim of the world and stays there. The forest is muted, held in its dusk colours, and the air hitches now and then as if the world were about to repeat itself. It is. Every ten minutes, Stutter Loop winds itself back. Nothing hostile lives here, so this is one of the safest worlds behind the doors, and one of the most generous.
The rule: the world resets every ten minutes¶
| What happens | Details |
|---|---|
| Warnings | A subtitle warns you 1 minute before the reset, again at 10 seconds, and again at 3 seconds. |
| Blocks come back | Every block a player broke is whole again; every block a player placed is gone. Levers flip back and doors close. |
| Chests refill | Any ruin chest that was opened is filled again, with a fresh roll of loot. |
| You keep your things | Your inventory and your position come through the reset. If restored blocks close in round you, you're lifted to the surface. |
| The Box is safe | Nothing inside the arrival Box is ever recorded or restored. |
Two things to watch:
- Anything you leave inside a ruin chest is lost at the reset, because the chest is put back exactly as it was.
- Anything you build vanishes at the next reset. Don't build a base here.
The sky is always dusk and there are no monsters: only farm animals wander the forest.
stutter-loop-resetThe ruins¶
About one ruin stands in every six by six chunks, each with a chest. There are four kinds:
| Ruin | What it looks like |
|---|---|
| Broken Wall | A tumbled stretch of wall on flattened ground. The most common. |
| Tower Stump | The base of a ruined tower. |
| Sunken Cellar | A cellar sunk four blocks into the ground. |
| Sundial | A low ring round a sundial. The rarest. |
Ruins that fall in a lake or river stand on its bed rather than floating.
What every chest holds¶
| Pool | Contents |
|---|---|
| Always | 1 to 3 |
| 1 or 2 of | |
| 1 or 2 of | Torches (2 to 6) or bread (1 to 3). |
Never a finished ampoule, but everything that goes into one.
Farming the loop¶
The trick is simple: find a few ruins near each other and make rounds. Empty every chest, wait for the reset, and empty them again. In an hour you can bring home a pile of tesseract ingots and Serum ingredients that would take days to gather at home.
Carry, don't store
Keep your haul in your inventory or in the Box. Anything put down in the world, or left in a ruin chest, is gone at the next reset.
What to bring home¶
Tesseract Ingots, the metal every Box and Serum station is made from.- Serum ingredients:
Quantum Dust,
Phase Salt Crystal,
Somnium Powder,
Lotus Extract and
Hush Glass Ampoules. - The terrain itself is ordinary forest over ordinary stone, but blocks you mine do come home with you.
Serum and getting home¶
- The arrival Box's cache holds 2 Serum Ampoules.
- There is no native Serum ingredient, but the ruin chests hand out nearly every ingredient for one, again and again.
Tips¶
- The loop runs on the world's own clock, not yours, so your first reset can come at any moment. Watch for the one-minute warning.
- Stand near a ruin when the 10-second warning comes, and open its chest the moment the world snaps back.
- Mine ore freely. The hole will close, but the ore stays in your pocket.
- Bring food anyway: bread from the chests is a supplement, not a diet.
Birds¶
Birds you can photograph for your bird log here. Open one to turn it round, watch it move and hear its call.
- Loop Robin: common
- Skipping Jay: rare
The traveler's tape¶
Every arrival Box has a chest by its door holding a cassette: the last traveler reading their journal of this world aloud. This is what they say. It gives a lot away.
Read the journal (spoilers)
The light here never changes: the sun sits on the rim of the world and the trees keep their dusk colors whatever my watch says. Every ten minutes the world stutters. A warning comes first, a minute out and again just before, and then everything I broke is whole again and everything I set down is gone; only what I carry comes through. I learned it from a chest in a ruined tower. I emptied it, the world stuttered, and when I looked again it was full, with different things in it. Every ruin out here has a chest like that, so I stopped digging and started making rounds, and the tesseract and the odd Serum ingredient add up quickly when the world keeps paying out. Nothing hunts here, which is the one mercy. When you have had enough, step back into the Box with the Serum still in you and shut the door.
